Liberalism
Liberalism is a second philosophy that concerns inequality, published by John Rawls. This philosophy coins the notion that no one in a society is able to design principles to favour his or hers conditions, therefore, we must design policies in a way allowing us to be objective about what policies are fair.
Concerning income distribution a person would consider it fair is that person did not know what kind of position they would end up in the distribution. Rawls argues that a person would be concerned with the possibility of ending up at the bottom of distribution; therefore public policies should be aimed at helping the worst off person in society, rather than maximizing total utility.
However, once again this policy would not be perfect. If the government promised to equalize income completely people would have no incentive to work, society’s total income would fall and the least fortunate in society would actually be worse off.
